Roseville resident Darren Campoy is under arrest on suspicion of armed robbery.

AUBURN CA - A Roseville man is behind bars and facing robbery charges related to a North Auburn holdup.

Darren Campoy, 28, is being held on $60,000 bail on allegations that he was the stick-up man in a robbery of the Atwood Road Flyers gas station.

The robbery occurred early Christmas morning and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office worked with Rocklin and Auburn police to corral the suspect as he attempted to get away in a stolen car.

Lt. Mark Reed of the Sheriff’s Office said that the Flyers gas station and store at the corner of Highway 49 and Atwood Road was robbed at about 5 a.m. last Tuesday.

A man entered the store and brandished a handgun before leaving the store with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, Reed said.

A sheriff’s sergeant caught site of the getaway car near Fulweiler Avenue in Auburn after the Flyers clerk had provided a description. But the driver raced away onto Interstate 80, leading authorities on a pursuit that was slowed at Horseshoe Bar Road when Rocklin Police put down a spike strip that the car ran over, Reed said.

The suspect vehicle turned around and continued back east up Interstate 80 until it reached the Maple Street exit in Auburn. There, the suspect was arrested, after a second spike strip shredded the two remaining, useable tires, Reed said.

Charged with felony robbery is Darren Campoy, 28, of Roseville. Campoy is also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a peace officer and carrying a loaded firearm.
