NSD awarded a ‘license to ruin’

Why and how does Newcastle Sanitary District get a license to ruin our neighborhood, yet answer to no one? They’ve started construction on a pipeline that will take sewage from their treatment plant and run it down our private road, paid for with private funds from the people living here, and they aren’t going to repair it properly when they’re done. They have no contingency plan if their lines leak and contaminate any of the private wells in the area. Then, to add insult to injury, they’re going to be ripping up a trench down Taylor Road, that was finally repaved just this fall. The response our neighborhood got from our state assemblymen is “it’s a local matter.” The response I personally received from our District Supervisor’s office was “we have no jurisdiction over NSD.” They may have finagled the legal right to screw up our neighborhood and put us at risk, but that still doesn’t make it right. What arrogance. Tony Johnstun, Newcastle
