Obray lifts Hillgals to key win

Emma Obray scored off an assist from Stephanie Bonitata in the 58th minute and goalkeeper Audrey Furlong made eight saves as the Placer High girls soccer team edged host El Dorado 1-0 Monday night. “We needed this one,” Hillgals head coach Steve Cook said. “We just kept the pressure on them.” Bonitata sent a through ball towards Obray, who broke down one defender and beat the Cougars’ goalkeeper. Brooke Bendorf, Karly Kenworthy, Caitlin Letcher and Kayla Lipsmeyer anchored the Placer defense. The Hillgals improved to 11-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the Pioneer Valley League. They host Whitney Wednesday night at Le Febvre Stadium. Foresthill 2, Vacaville Christian 1 at Foresthill — Anna Steever had an unassisted goal in the first half, Mariah Quintanilla scored off a Kyleigh Grace throw-in in the second and the upstart Wildfires beat the Falcons for the first time in school history, earning a key Central Valley Christian League victory in the process. Foresthill (3-5-1, 2-2-1 CVCL) avenged last week’s loss to Vacaville by the same score. The Wildfires travel to Victory Christian Thursday afternoon. Forest Lake Christian 6, Victory Christian 0 at Lake of the Pines — Katelyn Seitz had three goals while Kaylee Lommori, Morghan Pomeroy and Christa Weisman scored one apiece as the Falcons rolled at home Monday afternoon. Lommori, Pomeroy, Weisman, Lia Hegarty. Rachel Jordan and Kacie McGeary all had assists for Forest Lake, which improved to 10-6-1 overall and 9-0 in the CVCL. The Falcons travel to Foresthill next Monday.
