A Placer County correctional officer recently received a commendation for his response to an accident. Correctional Officer Rick Kennedy recently received a letter of commendation from the Sheriff’s Office, according to Dena Erwin, spokeswoman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. According to M. Jordana, who contacted the Journal, Kennedy came across a vehicle accident in September when he was driving to work. The accident involved a motorcycle, and the driver had multiple life-threatening injuries. The driver, Correctional Officer Brandon Fichou, was also a colleague of Kennedy’s. Kennedy called medical assistance and law enforcement to the scene, and Fichou was airlifted to the hospital. Kennedy then notified Fichou’s wife, and arranged for Fichou’s children to stay at his home while Fichou’s wife was at the hospital, Jordana said. Erwin said commendations are given out routinely. “They are written by supervisors anytime they feel an employee has done something in an exemplary manner, or if they went above and beyond their duties,” she said. Kennedy declined to comment on the commendation. ~Bridget Jones
