Old Town Auburn, historic courthouse to be part of Amgen Tour of California route

-A +A
Old Town Auburn and the Placer County Courthouse will be getting their Amgen Tour of California moment in the sun after all. Countering initial reports from local cyclists that the route would bypass Auburn’s oldest business district, AEG Sports’ street-by-street description of May 16’s Stage 1 from Nevada City to Sacramento shows racers entering Lincoln Way at Pine Street. The throng of elite pro cyclists, including multiple Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, will pass the courthouse and descend into the cluster of surviving Gold Rush-era buildings before turning onto Sacramento Street. The cyclists will move across Auburn Folsom Road onto High Street and then pass through Downtown Auburn along Lincoln Way on their way to the Foresthill Bridge. AEG announced details of the first stage on Tuesday. Nevada City, Grass Valley, Meadow Vista, Cool and Pilot Hill are also included on route that ends at the state Capitol in Sacramento. Details of the route are at amgentourofcalifornia.com. – Gus Thomson
