By: Stephanie Dumm, News Messenger Reporter
A Penryn man drowned Sunday afternoon after jumping off of some rocks into the water at Camp Far West Lake in Sheridan. Pliny Murphy, 20, dove into the water July 25 and never resurfaced, according to Placer County Sheriff's Department Lt. Jeffrey Ausnow. "Witnesses on scene reported that Murphy had climbed to a height of approximately 40 feet above the water and dove into the reservoir," Ausnow said. "We received 911 reports that said the male had jumped off of the cliff and had not resurfaced." Ausnow said calls came into 911 shortly after 4 p.m., and the Placer County dive team went to the reservoir and recovered Murphy's body at 6: 30 p.m. The presumed cause of death is drowning but must be confirmed by autopsy results, according to Ausnow.
