People in Business: Fitness trainer offers Zumba Gold

-A +A
Auburn resident Donna Lisa “DL” Otto is partnering with the Auburn Recreation District to introduce Zumba Gold in Auburn. Otto, a certified Zumba instructor, said the Gold program’s emphasis is on ages 50 and older. “It is lower impact and we pay special attention to joints, lower pacing and easy to follow moves,” she said. The classes are held from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the ARD recreation center’s Stella Irving Room. “Participants can follow moves easily, even someone just getting into fitness,” she said. “It gets you going, it’s good for the mind because you are learning a new dance step and it is good socially and physically. There are a lot of benefits from it.” The exercise classes feature mainly Latin-based dance music — cha cha, meringue, salsa, calypso but there are even belly dancing tunes. Otto also teaches exercise classes at Curves in Auburn. She eventually plans to add Zumba toning classes — using toning sticks -- at ARD. “I love to dance and am so excited to have the opportunity to share my passion with others,” she said in an e-mail. Classes are $40 for eight sessions. To sign up visit auburnrec.com. ~ Staff report
