The Hillmen used a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Center Wednesday afternoon at James Field in a Pioneer Valley League contest to earn a three-game season sweep over the Cougars.

Tyler Gums got the win and pitched a complete game. The sophomore struck out three batters, walked three and gave up three runs on six hits.

“He was spectacular again,” coach John Hilton said.

Center (6-10, 2-5), which lost to the Hillmen 13-3 Monday, managed to put up three runs in the first two innings before Placer (8-11, 4-3) got on the board.

The Hillmen scored a run in the third and fifth. But in the bottom of the sixth trailing 3-2, Placer took the lead for good with a three-run frame.

Austin LeBleu drove in Chip Mitchell (2 for 4) for the game-winning run on a fielder’s choice.

Other top batters for Placer, which tallied five hits on the day, included Isaac Brahce (1 for 2 with a run scored), Logan Markstein (1 for 3 with an RBI) and Troy Taylor 1 for 3.

Placer heads to league-leading Colfax (11-4, 7-0) Friday for a 4 p.m. showdown. Hilton said sophomore Luke Knoble is scheduled to get the start.
