The Placer High boys came up a single point shy of a Sac-Joaquin Section title Thursday at Modesto Junior College. The Hillmen won the final event of the meet – the 4x400-meter relay – as junior Darren Centi took the baton across the finish line first. But Sierra of Manteca finished fourth – good enough to surpass Placer and claim the Division III crown. Senior Lucas Stancliff brought home the lone individual title on the track as he blazed to victory in the 800 in 1 minute 57.2 seconds. Stancliff was also second in the 1600 in 4:27 while teammate Clay Campbell raced to fourth in 4:32. In the pole vault, senior Ryan Sage took fourth while Max Fagan raced to fourth in the 110 hurdles. Placer placed fifth in the 4x100 relay, running a season-best 44.2 seconds. Joe Mangino, Kody Combs and Stancliff led the winning 4x400 squad to a time of 3:26. The top six finishers in each event advance to next week’s Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet at Hughes Stadium. The Placer girls battled through injuries and illness to finish third at Thursday’s Division III finals. Senior Shannon Harcus blew away the field in the 3200, racing to victory in 11:13. She settled for second in the 1600, clocking in at 5:12. Senior Bethany Feis had a strong third place showing in the shot put while Niki Winnet was third in the pole vault. Kayla Reeves clocked in at 2:23 to place fifth in the 800. The Hillgals gutted out a second place finish in the 4x400 as freshman Michaela Ratliff joined Cauleen Doughty, Hannah Peterson and Reeves teamed up. Placer took sixth in the 4x100.
