Placer boys poised for run at section crown

The Placer High boys track and field team set itself up nicely for a run at a third Sac-Joaquin Section Division III title in four years with a solid qualifying day Tuesday. Senior Brett Crider cleared 46 feet in the triple jump to take first place and Jake Styler was fifth in the shot put in completed events Tuesday at Modesto Junior College. Senior Lucas Stancliff was the top qualifier in both the 800 meters and the 1600. Placer’s 4x400 team qualified in first and the Hillmen’s 4x100 squad also qualified for Thursday’s final. Max Fagan made the finals in both hurdle events and Ryan Sage will compete in the pole vault. Placer’s girls also qualified for the finals in both relay events. Shannon Harcus earned the top seed in both the 3200 and the 1600 while Kayla Reeves qualified for the 800 final. Shelby Crider will compete in the 300 hurdles final while Meredith Johnson will compete in the high jump and Kelsey Lardner will compete in the long jump. In girls pole vault action Thursday, Placer’s Niki Winnet claimed third place. Thursday’s finals will begin at 3 p.m. at Modesto Junior College.
