Placer High’s boys volleyball team is off to a quick start under new head coach Andy Klem.

Last Friday in a Foundation Game, Klem’s Hillmen swept El Dorado.

On Monday, Placer won its preseason opener, 26-24, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20 over visiting Oak Ridge.

“It was a good battle,” said Klem, who previously coached club volleyball at Northern California Volleyball Club in Rocklin and was hired about three weeks ago to replace former coach Robert Cole.

“They had a good team. I was able to get everybody in in that second game. Game 3 we were down five or six and kind of stole it from them.”

Placer (1-0) was led by Daniel Dahlin (17 kills), 6-foot-6 middle hitter Tyler Linton (13 kills) and sophomore setter Parker Houston (25 assists.).

Placer returns to the court Thursday, when the Hillmen host Folsom at Earl Crabbe Gym for a 7 p.m. contest.

Capital League play starts March 7 when Justin Beskeen and Bear River come to Auburn.
