Placer charges out of the gate

The Placer High cross country team dominated the first Pioneer Valley League meet of the season on all levels Wednesday at Renfree Park in Sacramento. The Placer boys placed three runners in the top five, including overall winner Christian Finkbeiner, who finished the 2.9-mile course in 15 minutes, 34 seconds. Freshman Zach Stelzer took third in 16:12 and junior Cameron Brown was fifth in 16:59. Zach Stoll took 11th and Isaac Tripp was 12th as the Hillmen took first place. On the girls side, Placer freshman Macaylea Mitchell was second to Bear River’s Breanne Mitchell. Kailee Warren placed third and Christina Winters was fourth. Kristen Hiatt and Ruth Braica both ran well for the Hillgals. Breanne Mitchell won the girls race in 17:51 while Macaylea clocked in a 18:41. Seaera Moe took fifth for the Bruins while Harla Moe was 10th. In junior varsity girls action, Placer’s Halle Ralls took first place as Placer scored a perfect 15 points by placing its entire team in the top five. Placer freshman Felix Oliveros won the JV boys race to lead Placer to the team title. Placer’s varsity squads will compete in the Stanford Invitational Saturday.
