The Placer County Sheriff's Office recently acquired new equipment to keep the community safe thanks to a grant from the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln.
A small, high-tech, remote-controlled robot camera and eight self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units were acquired through the grant. These tools will enable the sheriff's Special Enforcement Team (SET) to better respond to threats in multi-story structures.
The grant program is funded by Thunder Valley Casino, the Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund, and is administered by the local community benefit committee.
The compact, remote-controlled camera unit gives SET deputies the ability to monitor buildings or rooms and covertly gather intelligence.
The breathing units will enable SET deputies to enter smoke-filled areas and establish a safe environment for firefighters to enter.
"This equipment greatly enhances our response capabilities," said Lt. Wayne Woo, SET commander. "Due to the current fiscal climate we would not have been able to purchase these items without the support of Thunder Valley. We appreciate their continued commitment to the community and public safety."
