Placer falls to Whitney volleyball teamBy: Journal sports staff
The Hillmen came out strong. But they couldn’t keep their energy level up.
Not against Capital Athletic League-leading Whitney.
Placer won the first set Thursday night at Earl Crabbe Gym but then dropped the next three in a 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 loss against the Wildcats (16-1, 7-0).
“We came out with a lot of energy,” said Placer coach Andy Klem, whose team fell to 8-9, 2-5 in the CAL. “One of the big factors for us is communication. It’s easy to forget to do it. But in the first game the bench was into it and everybody has having a good game. Then we made some mistakes. Give Whitney credit, they have good hitters and setters.”
Wyatt Henson had 15 kills on 30 attempts and Logan Wager added seven kills, four aces and eight digs for Placer. Collin Houston chipped in with 12 kills and Tyler Linton 11.
Setter Parker Houston had close to 40 assists. Defensive specialists B.J. Sidhu and Eric Lawson were scrappy and went after a lot of loose balls, Klem said.
Placer travels to Antelope Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game before beginning a three-game home stand.
