The Placer High School football team will play its highlight film of the 2012 season Thursday night at the auditorium on campus.

At 7 p.m. Hillmen coach Joey Montoya will give a few words before hitting the play button.

The event is free and open to the public.

Placer, which will hold a lift-a-thon fundraiser on May 29, went 11-1 last year and won its first Pioneer Valley League title.

No Idaho game this year

The Hillmen’s 2013 football scheduled is finally finalized.

After talk of the Hillmen playing a game in Idaho folded because of the cost, Placer was supposed to play a game in Oakland. But that fell through, too.

So instead, the Hillmen will play at McLane of Fresno on Sept. 14.

“It was probably going to be around the $30,000 range,” Montoya said of the price Placer would pay to play in Idaho. “With all the other expenses we have, it was a little too heavy on the budget.”

Montoya hopes to take his team out of the state in the future on a more affordable trip.

Placer’s season opens at home when Central Catholic comes to Auburn on Aug. 30.

The Hillmen also have home games against Christian Brothers, Woodcreek, Lincoln and Colfax. They play at McLane, Yuba City, Foothill, Bear River and Center.

Suverkropp gets scholarship

Tony Suverkropp, the senior linebacker who led the Hillmen in tackles for two straight years, will be playing football in college.

Montoya said Suverkropp has received an academic scholarship to Pacific University in Oregon that will cover the majority of his education.

Suverkropp visited the Division III school last week and committed early this week, Montoya said.
