Placer freshmen manhandle Mesa Verde

Running back Michael Robinson rushed for 160 yards and scored four touchdowns Thursday night, leading Placer High’s freshman football team to a 42-7 victory over visiting Mesa Verde at Le Febvre Stadium. Quarterback Casey Yunk completed 3 of 4 passes for 150 yards for the Hillmen (4-0, 1-0 Pioneer Valley League). Half of those yards came on a screen pass that Robinson took 75 yards for a TD. Running backs Brad Moman and Isaac Brahce also had rushing touchdowns for Placer, which scored all of its points in the first half. Defensive ends Jake Lewis and Eddie Vanderdoes led the Hillmen on the opposite side of the ball, combining for three sacks and 12 tackles. Ryan Talley finished with a team-high seven tackles, fellow linebacker Tony Suverkropp added five more and free safety Jalen Lewis had some key pass break-ups as well as some big open-field tackles. Colfax 7, Bear River 0 at Lake of the Pines — Hhalfback Austin Mulzerrig scored the game’s only touchdown on a 25-yard run in the second quarter, then kicked the extra point as the Falcons (2-2) won their Pioneer Valley League opener. Defensive backs Henry Freer and Cory Schllinhart each had interceptions to lead the Colfax defense. Fullback/linebacker Cody Heard had a solid all-around game for Bear River (1-2, 0-1 PVL).
