For the first time since 2005, Placer High and Del Oro met on the football field Friday night, albeit at the freshman level.
The Hillmen earned bragging rights for Auburn with a 28-20 win at Le Febvre Stadium.
The game was tied at the half, but Placer’s Christian Davis intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards to end the third quarter. One play later, Davis caught an 18-yard-touchdown pass from Clark Pietromanaco to give Placer a 21-14 lead. Cole Blackwell added a 50-yard TD run later in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Hillmen.
Blackwell finished with 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Gray rushed for 105 yards and one TD. Dominique Perez was perfect on four point-after kicks.
The Hillmen defense was anchored by linemen Brett Meeker, Colton Ranck and Grayson Hoffman, according to coach Jim Gray.
Placer has a bye next week before facing Sutter on Sept. 8.

Marysville 40, Foresthill 14
Marysville High star Cole Hannum proved too tough for Foresthill Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
The burly junior rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Indians to a 40-14 victory over the Wildfires in Foresthill.
