Placer girls have no trouble in opener

Kerry McCullough and the Placer High girls basketball team found their outside shooting touch early and never lost it Thursday night.
The Lady Hillmen cruised to a 61-27 win over Mesa Verde to open the Coach “G” Memorial tournament at Earl Crabbe Gym. McCullough scored all 15 of her points in the first half, when she hit three 3-pointers.
Ari Jensen also hit three treys for all of her points and Elena Daniel added one and finished with 12 points for Placer (4-5). The Lady Hillmen led just 8-7 in the first quarter before catching fire. They built a 21-9 lead by the end of the first and 38-19 at the half.
Placer will face Del Campo tonight at 8 p.m. in a semifinal. Rio Americano and Rocklin will meet in the other semifinal. Folsom and Vista Del Lago will play at 3:30. Foothill of Palo Cedro will face Mesa Verde at 5.

Del Oro def. Casa Roble at Loomis — The Golden Eagles got a tough test from the Rams in the first round of the Lady Eagle Invitational before pulling away.
Colfax fell to Woodcreek, 61-38. Haley Biles led the Falcons with six points.
Del Oro will face Pleasant Valley-Chico tonight at 7 p.m. in the semifinals. El Camino will take on Woodcreek in the other semifinal at 8:30. Colfax will face McCLatchy at 3:30 p.m. and Casa Roble will meet Whitney at 5.
