An icy slalom course at Sugar Bowl Monday morning couldn’t keep the Placer High girls ski team from dominating another Central Division II race. Karly Kenworthy raced to first place overall and the Hillgals grabbed three of the top four spots to win for the second straight week. Kenworthy finished two runs in 1 minute, 28.66 seconds while Paige Rothe placed second in 1:37.04. Erin Babich took fourth in 1:43.51 and Lanae Rothe finished 14th. Shannon O’Flaherty skied well, placing 17th. “I was excited to see the improvement in all the ladies,” Placer coach Matt Conley said. “We’re hoping for snow. Today’s conditions were difficult, but it didn’t seem to effect the ladies that much.” Colfax’s Nicole Bajka raced to third overall while Nicole Lorang was 11th. Bear River’s Kaitlyn Dwelle took 13th and Katie DeLaveaga raced to 27th. The Placer boys struggled as their top two skiers fell and did not finish. McCall Falkenstein was the line finisher for the Hillmen, taking 16th. Dylan Laidlaw led Colfax with an 11th place showing while Jack Hammann was close behind in 12th. Bear River’s Mike Scinto took 18th.
