Placer scored a big victory.

Goalkeepers Jenelle Pickard and Kyra Hostetler pitched a shutout and Macaylea Mitchell notched two second-half scores in the Lady Hillmen’s 5-0 victory over Cordova Tuesday at Railhead Park.

Placer (2-6) took a 3-0 lead in the first half after goals by Morgan Cutter, Brittany Bartle and Sabrina Viscuso.

Pickard played the first 52 minutes in goal, with Hostetler closing out the final 28 minutes.

“We always play everybody,” said coach Steve Cook. “They both played really well. We’re hitting our stride and learning well.”

Cordova entered Tuesday’s match with a solid 5-1-2 record.

“It was a very good game,” Cook said. “We’re still learning but we connected well and got a fine all-around effort — everybody contributed.”

Cook was also happy with the play of captains Alex Lee, Olivia Holmes, Cameron Rohde and Viscuso.

Placer returns to the pitch Thursday at Golden Sierra with a scheduled 5 p.m. kickoff.
