For eight minutes, the Lady Hillmen seemed a little flat.
“Very flat,” coach Tony Camillucci said.
A defensive change and a barrage of three 3-pointers later, and the Placer High School girls basketball team was rolling to its ninth win of the season.
The Lady Hillmen used a 29-2 run spanning the entire second quarter and most of the third to beat Folsom 57-22 Thursday in the nightcap of their own Coach “G” Memorial Tournament at Earl Crabbe Gym.
“Typically, we start in our press,” Camillucci said when asked about the slow start. “We thought we’d try to go man for a while, we were very slow. They did a nice job one-on-one. Their No. 21 (Danielle DaCosta), we just didn’t have an answer for her in a man.”
Placer (9-1) led 12-10 after the first quarter. Five minutes into the second frame, Placer led 19-12 and from there caught fire.
Elena Daniel connected from beyond the arch and Kirstin Schauble drilled two straight 3-pointers all within a minute span, giving Placer a 28-12 lead.
Baylee Vanderdoes opened the third quarter up by scoring six consecutive points. Ari Jensen also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
“Our pressure on defense kind of fed our offense,” Camillucci said. “We hit some outside shots … Kirstin and Ari hit some big 3s and that kind of loosened us up.”
Placer plays Rio Americano, which beat Foresthill 65-33, Friday at 8 p.m. in a winner’s bracket game.
“We’re looking forward to a tough match tomorrow with Rio,” Camillucci said.
