Placer harriers motor to first place

The Placer High girls re-claimed pole position in the battle for the Pioneer Valley League cross country title with a dominant day in Colfax Wednesday. Senior Christina Winters raced to first place in 20 minutes 47 seconds and the Hillgals claimed five of the top six spots in the race to win easily. Bear River was second and Lincoln was third on the five-kilometer course. Micaylea Mitchell took second in 21:16 and Ruth Brica was third in 21:20 for Placer. Kailee Warren placed fifth in 21:54 and Kristin Hiatt capped the scoring with a sixth place finish in 21:58. The Placer boys won their second PVL race in as many outings as senior Christian Finkbeiner claimed the individual crown in 16:44. Zach Stelzer took second in 17:08, Gama Gomez was third in 17:14, Viktor Dorokeyev was fourth in 17:38 and Mauricio Vera took sixth in 17:48. Placer’s frosh/soph. boys and girls teams both won. Halley Ralls won the girls 2K race in 15:39. Felix Olivares was first in the boys race in 12:26. The final PVL race of the season is Oct. 26 at Lincoln.
