Placer JV, varsity softball teams beat Center

Kaelin Amrein’s big day at the plate helped power Placer’s varsity softball team to a 14-5 victory Tuesday at Center in a Pioneer Valley League game.
Amrein went 4 for 5 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and four runs. 
Claire Hansen was 3 for 5 with three RBI and a double. The catcher also threw out a runner trying to steal. 
Center scored all of its runs in the first inning against Placer (7-12-1, 4-2).
Other big bats for the Lady Hillmen included Abbie Strickland (3 for 5, two RBI, three runs), Kaitlyn Rubio (two RBI, two runs) and Brooke Stufflebean (three RBI). 
Hailey Leggit chipped in by stealing two bases and scoring twice. 
Amrein had seven strike outs on the day and walked none. 
Lela Scott and Makenna Gaffney came up with big catches in the outfield. 
Placer JV 4, Center 3 - The Lady Hillmen picked up a come-from-behind victory by scoring two runs in the final frame. Sarah Hansen scored two runs and threw out several runners from behind the plate. Ashley Childress went 3 for 4 and Logan McGourty had two RBI. Shiloh Conners was credited with playing solid defense and also had an RBI. Brittany Welch started the game off with a homerun.  Peyton McCortney pitched well.
