Placer Midgets, Junior Midgets victorious

Michael Robinson rushed for 297 yards on 19 carries and scored all five touchdowns to lead the Placer Jr. Hillmen Midgets past the Natomas Jr. Nighthawks 33-22 Sunday. Quarterback Casey Yunk added 40 yards on seven carries and Jacob Moman rushed seven times for 30 yards. Nate Ralls had two sacks, each for 10-yard losses, and Robinson added a sack for an 8-yard loss. Jake Lewis also had a big sack late in the fourth quarter to stall a Nighthawk drive near the Placer goal line. Eddie Vanderdoes and Tony Suvercrop each recovered fumbles. Suvercrop had a team-high six tackles while Robinson, Lewis and Vanderdoes each finished with five tackles for the Hillmen (3-3), who travel to play at Whitney High Saturday at 5 p.m. In the Junior Midget division, Placer trailed at halftime before coming back in the second half and holding off a late Natomas rally to beat the Nighthawks 36-32, improving to 2-4 overall. In a back-and-forth game, the Hillmen took the lead for good, 28-26, on a 10-yard touchdown strike from Logan Strange to Matthew O’Brien late in the third quarter after Natomas led 20-14 at halftime. Strange completed two touchdown passes. Isaac Brahce, who led the team in rushing, scored on a 30-yard touchdown run with five minutes left in the game for an insurance score. The Junior Midgets play Saturday at 3 p.m. The Mighty Mites (0-6) kick off the day’s action in search of their first win at 9 a.m., followed by the Junior Pee Wees (2-4) at 11 and the Pee Wees (1-5) at 1 p.m.
