Placer rallies to blast Bear River

Emma Obray scored three second-half goals and Celeste Havener added two goals in the final minutes as Placer stormed back to beat Bear River 5-2 Monday at Lake of the Pines. Bear River led 2-0 at halftime before Obray and Havener took control of the offense in the second half to help the Hillmen improve to 3-3-2 overall and even their Pioneer Valley League record at 1-1. Placer shut out the Bruins 5-0 in junior varsity action. The Hillmen travel to El Dorado Wednesday at 6 p.m. Forest Lake Christian 6, Cristo Rey 0 at Lake of the Pines — Dana Ormiston had two goals and an assist, Bethany Derenne scored twice and Katelyn Seitz and Alaura Woody each added goals as the Falcons improved to 5-1 overall with a nonleague shutout. Goalkeeper Morghan Pomeroy came up with five saves in the shutout. Forest Lake resumes Central Valley Christian League play at Woodland Christian Thursday at 4 p.m. Mesa Verde 2, Colfax 1 at Citrus Heights — The Falcons recorded their quickest goal of the season when K.C. Capuchino blasted home a shot just inside the penalty box just 22 seconds into the game, but Colfax (6-3-2 overall, 1-1 PVL) fell flat for the rest of the game. The Mavericks broke a 1-1 halftime tie with the game-winning goal late in the second half. The Falcons blanked Mesa Verde 5-0 in the J.V. game. Colfax hosts Davis today at 4 p.m.
