Placer ready for Colfax after sweep of Center

The Placer High volleyball team breezed past Center Tuesday night at Earl Crabbe Gym 25-6, 25-6, 25-14.
The Hillgals improved to 5-1 in the Pioneer Valley League heading into next week’s pivotal matches with co-league leaders Colfax and Bear River.
Senior Michaela Leonard pounded nine kills Wednesday to lead Placer. Senior Allison Alvarez and junior Danielle Fitz tossed in four kills apiece. Junior Kellyn McDonald added three blocks and junior Lauren Collins served for five aces.
Placer, which is No. 6 in this week’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III power ratings, will face Colfax on the road Monday before hosting Bear River next Wednesday.
Colfax 3, Foothill 0 at Colfax — The Falcons held up their end of the bargain with a sweep of the Mustangs heading into Monday’s clash with Placer.
Sophomore Maddi Ittner dropped 10 kills and senior Iona Lofrano had nine kills for Colfax (5-1 PVL). Senior Kelsey Whittet was perfect at the service line while Ashley Scott added 12 digs and Taylor Pitts had six digs.
Haley Biles dished out 25 assists and Ashley Bourne played well in the backcourt for the Falcons.
