Placer softball improves to 3-0

Hillgals crush Mesa Verde, 9-0

The Placer High softball team continued to make the game look simple Thursday in Citrus Heights. The Hillgals defeated Mesa Verde 9-0 for their third shutout in as many games to start the season. Kaelin Ameren went three innings in the pitcher’s circle for the win and Jenna Knox tossed four shutout innings in relief to lead Placer. Claire Hansen was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double. Taylor Hill was 2-for-2 while Ameren smacked a home run and had two RBIs. Haley Tupen was 1-for-2 and plated two runs. Abby Kendall and Hailey Leggitt each added singles. On Tuesday, Placer dropped El Dorado 12-0 in five innings as Knox pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts. Kendall was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored to lead the bats. Hill finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Placer will face Galt today at 9 a.m. to open a tournament in Davis.
