Placer softball wins PVL opener against Center

Claire Hansen and Kaelin Amrein both had three-RBI games to lift the Placer High School softball team to a 7-4 come-from-behind victory in Monday’s Pioneer Valley League opener against visiting Center.

Placer (4-10-1, 1-0) trailed 3-0 after one inning. But in the third, Hansen got the Lady Hillmen’s first hit with an RBI single. She later tacked on two more runs with another single.

Amrein had two hits on the day and scored a run as well.

Brooke Stufflebean chipped in with a double, an RBI, two runs and an unassisted double play off a line drive.

Pitcher Lizzy Rutherford struck out two batters and allowed three hits and no walks.

Sisters Kassidy and Sarah Kosmata were solid in the field.

Placer JV 7, Center 4 — Peyton McCortney pitched a complete game and Sarah Hansen was strong behind the plate. Shiloh Conners hit a home run and was 2 for 3 on the day. McCortney and Kaila Dolotina also went 2 for 3 and Hansen had a triple, bringing in three runs. Ashley Childress and Maddie Schepp each had singles.
