There were some rare anxious moments for the Placer High golf team Thursday at Auburn Valley Country Club. The Hillgals are accustomed to cruising past Pioneer Valley League opponents, but Lincoln provided a challenge on the final day of summer.
Junior Hannah Gregg shot a 3-over-par 39 and Placer’s depth proved too tough for the Zebras when all the scorecards came in. Placer shot 249 as a team, 12 shots ahead of Lincoln.
Madi Holm carded a 47 for the Hillgals (3-0 PVL) and Paige Maberry provided a solid 52.
Placer will play at the first PVL Tournament of the season on Monday at Barley Cavanaugh.

Center 257, Bear River 268 at Lake of the Pines — The Bruins lost a tight match to the Cougars at home.
Jessica Picenti led Bear River with a 5-over-par 42. Cassie Smith finished with a 47 and Casey Brown tossed in a 49 as the Bruins fell to 0-3 in the PVL.
