Placer tennis explodes into third round

Hillmen drop Calaveras 7-0

The Placer High coed tennis team continued its mark toward the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III crown Monday with a 7-0 win over visiting Calaveras. All of the Hillmen won in convincing fashion. Tine Hummel, the No. 1 girls single player, was the only person to have any trouble when she had to take the second set 7-5 against Leah Bayers after winning the first 6-0. Steven Fraguglia, Brendan Axelbaum and Lindsay Holden all won in the singles matches. The teams Andrew Dalton and Andrew Carducci, Derek Ikeda and Logan Thompson, Clare McInnery and Kirstin Schauble, Amy Clausson and Bronte Haskins, along with mixed doubles Kyle Fautes and Jess Fry won. The Hillmen advanced to the third round of the playoffs and will play at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of West Campus and Vista Del Lago.
