Placer volleyball to host first-round playoff match

Four local volleyball squads will open postseason play at home on Tuesday as the Sac-Joaquin Section released its playoff brackets on Thursday. Placer High, which placed second in the Pioneer Valley League, will host old PVL foe Whitney in a first-round Division III match. The Hillgals (19-8) are seeded sixth in the 16-team field while the Wildcats (22-13) are No. 11. Placer defeated Whitney in five games back in September in its first match of the season. The Wildcats went on to finish third in the Capital Valley League with a 9-6 record. In Division II, Del Oro landed a No. 4 seed and will welcome No. 13 Folsom. The Eagles (18-10) finished third in the Sierra Foothill League. PVL champion Bear River is seeded fifth in Division IV while Colfax is No. 10. The Bruins (24-9) will host Argonaut on Tuesday. The Falcons (24-9) will hit the road to face No. 7 Union Mine. In the Division V bracket, Forest Lake earned a home match against Turlock Christian in the first round. The Falcons (13-8) are seeded eighth. All playoff matches begin at 7 p.m.
