Placer wins big, Del Oro comes up one stroke short

The Del Oro boys golf team scored its highest team score of the season but fell one stroke short of winning the first Sierra Foothill League tourney of the season.
Granite Bay edged out the Eagles 379-380 Monday at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville.
Senior Austin Smotherman led the Eagles with a second place finish at even-par 72. He finished four strokes behind Woodcreek’s Lee Gearhart.
John Nargussi and Canyon Rowe both hit 76 for Del Oro. Bobby Mullen carded a 77 and Justin Raskin and Louie Uer rounded out the Eagles’ top-five scorers with a 79.

Placer dominates PVL tourney
The Placer boys golf team tamed Diamond Oaks Golf Course in Roseville on Monday en route to the Pioneer Valley League tournament title.
The Hillmen shot a 368 to outduel Colfax, which had 402. Bear River finished fourth at 421.
Austin Childress and Daniel Gregg paced the Hillmen with each scoring 1-under-par 71. Aubrey Harwell of Bear River finished third.
Placer golfers Matthew Potter and Cody Ricks both shot 75.
The next PVL tournament, which will determine the league championship, is April 30 at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael.
