The Placer High School wrestling team responded well after losing its Pioneer Valley League opener.

Gama Gomez (134 pounds), Michael Valdez (140), Hayden Mills (154), Mason Lenover (162), Will Thornton (184) and Ryan Talley (197) all won by pin fall and the Hillmen beat the Fighting Zebras 58-18 in Lincoln Wednesday night.

“We went in after a hard loss and set the tone early,” Placer coach Don Packheiser said. “They had some pins against us early, but we finished strong. I was really proud of how the boys did after Center.”

Anthony Wong (106), Josh Mason (122) and Myles Lenover (172) recorded wins by decision. Brandon Pierson and Zach Steagall picked up victories by forfeit.

Placer’s Paul Lonicki (115), Jared Halbert (128) and Justin Mason (147) lost by fall.

Placer junior varsity wrestlers Chance Wilkins, Sho Belsito, Sam March, Jack Morris, Andrew Wong and Chris James also won their matches.

Placer returns to the mat Tuesday when it hosts Foothill at 6 p.m. in a PVL meet.
