The Placer High Ski showed strength on the slopes Monday in their second race of the season. It was a day of success for the boy’s varsity team with three top ten finishes. Evan Swayze took first with a combined time of 1:12.2. While Julian Faulkner and McCall Faulknestein, showed the gains they have made in the past few years, finishing 3rd and 10th respectively. “It was a good competition for the top twelve boy’s in the league with strong runs,” Conley said. “The improvements are great.” The girl’s varsity team faced some disappointment today in the Slalom as Colfax ascended with three top ten finishes. Junior, Lanae Rothe, placed highest for Placer at 21st. Her first run yielded a 28th place finish because of a hand slip on a gate, but her 2nd run yielded a 6th place finish. Also competing for Placer was Italian exchange student, Ilara Piredba, who placed 28th in her first time on the slalom course. Placer’s top senior, Karly Kenworthy, was unable to compete because of a cold. Conley said that the girls’ performance shows that they have the talent to be top contenders towards the end of the season. With a traditionally high-ranking ski team he is confident this year will be no exception. “We have to fight this year,” Conley said. “I congratulate Colfax, but I am seeing a depth in my boy’s team I haven’t had in a long time.”
