The Pleasant Ridge Union School District board of trustees recently selected Britta Skavdahl as the district’s new superintendent. Skavdahl takes the reins July 1. Until then, James Meshwert, former Pleasant Ridge superintendent, continues to serve as interim superintendent. “What really intrigued me about the Pleasant Ridge district is the absolute commitment to excellence and the programs they offer students,” Skavdahl told the Journal Friday. “That’s the sort of organization I long to be a part of.” Skavdahl’s appointment at a March 31 special board meeting concluded a nine-month national search to find a replacement for former superintendent Linda Rooney, who took a position as the Rocklin Unified School District’s deputy superintendent of educational services in July 2008. Skavdahl currently serves as superintendent of the Curtis Creek Elementary School District, a two-school, 650-student district located near Sonora, in Tuolumne County. Skavdahl said her annual salary with the Pleasant Ridge district would start at $114,000. --Loryll Nicolaisen
