Police arrest burglary suspect
Sacramento woman jailed for alleged involvement in car break-ins at ARD park, Finley Street
Auburn Police have arrested a suspect in a series of vehicle burglaries that occurred on April 22 and 23, 2010. Sacramento resident Susan Markwell, 42, was taken into custody Friday and is currently in the Placer County Jail on $95,000 bail, Auburn Police Detective Adam Cline said in a press release. According to the report, the vehicle break-ins occurred in the parking lot of Auburn Recreation District Park and in the 300 block of Finley Street in Auburn. Windows of the victims’ vehicles were smashed to gain entry and assorted valuables were taken from the vehicles. The suspects involved in the case put fliers on vehicles as a means of observing what was inside the vehicles. This would allow them to determine which vehicles to target, Cline said in the report. Evidence collected at the scene of the vehicle burglaries was later analyzed. DNA evidence from the crime scene provided Auburn Police Department investigators with leads. From the leads, the investigators identified one of the suspects as Markwell, the report said. Cline and Auburn Police Detective Dustin McLaughlin contacted Markwell at her Sacramento residence on Friday, where they interviewed her and subsequently made the arrest. The Auburn Police Department is urging residents to not leave valuables in their vehicles or leave items in plain view. The investigation is ongoing and the detectives will be contacting other suspects believed to be involved in the case. Anyone with any further information is encouraged to contact Detective Cline at (530) 823-4237 ext. 238.
