Prized Langlitz motorcycle jacket pilfered in Meadow Vista break-in

Meadow Vista resident and Bonneville Flats motorcycle racer James Broaddus is scratching his head over a break-in over the weekend. Broaddus said a burglary at his home Saturday night zeroed in on his protective motorcycle riding leathers. Among the gloves, chaps and jackets stolen in the break-in was a custom-made, seamless Langlitz jacket used for racing. It’s a $1,100 jacket that Broaddus said was a Christmas present he’d been wanting for 30 years. “Someone walked between my bike and tools to take a duffel bag with all the racing gear,” Broaddus said. “Stealing that sticks out like a sore thumb.” Broaddus, a millwright, has raced on the Bonnieville Salt Flats in Utah several times at the annual Motorcycle Speed Trials. Also reported to the Placer County Sheriff’s Officer as stolen in the break-in were a checkbook, cash, flashlights and a digital camera. But Broaddus said that the Langlitz jacket is the one irreplaceable possession and he’s offering a reward to get it back. He can be reached at 530-368-4198. – Gus Thomson
