The word “greed” has been terribly misused to demonize people who are competent and earn more money than most, as in “It is greedy to earn more money than one needs.” The valid use of the word “greed” is to apply it to someone who receives money they did not earn or deserve. It is logical to everyone, not an idiot, that the pay for an employee of government should be less for the same level of responsibility and ability as in private employment. This is obviously so because a government employee has far more job security. Few former government employees are unemployed in Wisconsin today. Greed is exhibited by Wisconsin government union employees receiving excessive salary, healthcare and retirement benefits extorted from elected officials fearful of losing the next election.
