AUBURN CA - A Rohnert Park man has died in the North Fork of the American River near Colfax, while whitewater rafting, authorities have reported. The man has been identified as Stan Decker, 59, of Rohnert Park. Decker died Saturday afternoon, authorities said. The Associated Press reported that Decker drowned after apparently trying to help two rafters who were struggling with some fast-moving rapids. Julie Hutchinson, U.S. Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokeswoman, told media outlets that while trying to help the rafters, the group hit another set of rapids that apparently caused him to fall into the water. Decker reportedly disappeared into the rapides and the two rafters later found him but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, AP reported. The Journal will be updating this report later today.
