Railroad crossing to close next week
By: Martha Garcia,Colfax Record Editor
Grass Valley Street closure to be followed by others
Union Pacific is on track to close the Grass Valley Street railroad crossing, above, from Tuesday, Jan. 3, through Sunday, Jan. 8. The closure – which will affect both motorists and pedestrians – is taking place as part of UP’s project to upgrade the transcontinental railway between Colfax and Rocklin. Alternative routes in and out of Colfax are the Highway 174 entrance at North Main Street or Tokayana Way, which leads to Placer Hills Road. Liisa Lawson-Stark, UP’s local Director of Public Affairs, said the transportation company tries to minimize impacts from closure, which comes during winter break for local schools. “We are coordinating with local emergency responders with detour plans and work schedules,” she said. The project will also require the closure of railroad crossings at Mt. Howell Road in rural Colfax from Jan. 4-9; Weimar Cross Road, Jan. 5-18; and Paoli Lane and Lawyers Crossing, in Weimar, Jan. 6-19. For daily updates on road closures, call (877) 243-1350.
