Reader input: Act now to hold down sewer cost

-A +A

On May 7 at 10.30 a.m. the Placer County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to consider an increase in the sewer usage fee. At the present the cost for this usage is $82. The district proposes to increase the fee to $95.78 a month effective July 2013. That is $13.78 a month or $165.36 a year. If you object to this increase, you may file a written protest to the clerk of the Board of Supervisors,County of Placer, 175 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn, CA 95603.
The board is working now with Lincoln to cover the cost of the line that carries the sewer to their treatment facility. This amount gets tacked on to our property taxes for the next 30 years. After that Lincoln will have the option of increasing it again, as they will hold this contract. This must not happen!
I was disappointed at the meeting last week. There were only seven of us there to listen to what could happen if we did not get busy and do something. In the April 14 Auburn Journal Reader Input, (George) Costanich gave a very accurate report of what is happening.
Grab this paper and pass it on to every one of your friends. If the majority of these property owners file the written protests, the rate change will not be imposed. Now is the time to have some control of our future. Attend the May 7 meeting. But first, file the written report to the above address.
