Re: “Four decades of cycling in the foothills,” Journal, Dec. 5:
I recently read Gloria Young’s article, and found it very amazing, fascinating and impressive. Forty years in business by a local bicycle shop? Wow!
The foothills sure are popular, people coming from all over to cycle here. Some people even move to Auburn just because of what the canyon offers.
The article highlights a bike shop called “Auburn Bike Works,” which is owned by Lisa Kodl. It has had several locations, but is now happily in a location on Highway 49. The location has more visibility, making it much easier to find.
The races Auburn Bike Works hold even support the Auburn State Recreation Area for trail maintenance. They get at least 400 riders from all over, as well.
The store even helps with the Auburn Marathon, Criterium and Tahoe-Sierra, which starts in Soda Springs and ends in Auburn.
Auburn now has three major cycling events with a 100-mile trek each! Kodl, the owner, even has employees and customers involved in the Auburn State Recreation Area Trail Maintenance Project.
There are a lot of other amazing things this shop has done, and I’ve only scratched the surface — but, what an amazing shop this is!
