Reader Input: God offers the guidelines to live by

-A +A

Can you imagine being there with Mary Magdalene, on the first Easter morning? Think of how her life was changed when Jesus called her name. All she had to hear was one word, “Mary,” and she was never the same. Isn’t it a joy to know that the creator of the universe knows each one of us by name?
Our modern culture is doing everything it can to keep us from realizing that Easter, the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, is by far the greatest event in human history! In many places it is now just “spring break,” or an Easter egg hunt.
The ACLU is working hard to take the crosses out of many of our public places, but we can be encouraged by the resistance of many Americans that want these crosses to continue to be seen as a testimony to the fact that we are still a Christian nation. From the founding of our nation, God has been a part of it, and we need to heed this message, and be encouraged by the Bible: Deuteronomy 6:5-7: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your strength … .”
Do you really think that if we truly took this to heart, we might have fewer killings, less fighting in our schools, in our streets, and that we might teach our young people that there is no substitute for distinguishing right from wrong? We all want guidelines to live by … and God is the answer!
Let’s acknowledge God in our schools and in our society, and we will see the great changes that will come about. Do you believe in God, the creator of our universe? Many are so quick to try to put him down, deny him, and so ready to defend other beliefs, but when there is a real need, “Oh my God” comes to their lips!
President Calvin Coolidge, in 1924, said, “A trained intelligence can do much, but there is no substitute for morality, character and religious conviction.”
This still applies today, and let’s acknowledge God, and God himself has promised us that “If my people that are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land;” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Happy Easter! Enjoy the beauty of it!
