Re: “Young parents face unique challenges,” Journal Feb. 24: The teen parent program at Adelante High apparently isn’t working very well. The teens are supposedly taught sex education and abstinence, yet there is a young lady who, at age 17, already has a 2-year-old and is pregnant again.
Birth control seems to be the answer here — real birth control, not abstinence, because once teens are having sex, they don’t tend to stop.
So, the program is a dismal failure if one judges it by having none of the enrollees becoming pregnant (again!) while enrolled in the program. Seems like a waste of time and money.
