Recology-Auburn Placer not seeking county garbage-collection fee hike
By: Journal Staff Report
Placer County staff is recommending that the Board of Supervisors approve plans for Recology ?Auburn Placer to forego any cost-of-living increase for garbage collection fees during the coming fiscal year. The fee freeze will take in Franchise Areas 1 and 4, which encompass all parts of unincorporated Placer County west of Colfax, including the Foresthill and Iowa Hill divides. Facility Services Director Jim Durfee said in a report that the Recology franchise agreement includes provisions for an annual cost-of-living adjustment on the portion of the fee covering labor, equipment and overhead costs. ?Using the index information applicable to this year would result in a COLA increase of 3.42 percent on this portion of the fee,? Durfee said. But Recology-Auburn Placer agreed to forego the adjustment, resulting in potentially no increase in garbage collection fees charged to customers in the fiscal year 2012-13, starting in July, he said. The board will met at 9 a.m. Tuesday at 175 Fulweiler Ave., in Auburn for its regularly scheduled meeting. The garbage-collection fee recommendation is to be taken up at 9:45 a.m.
