Regional university will become great asset

-A +A
As a lifelong educator, I find it interesting that the Sierra Club is trying to discredit the merits of the regional university plan as it heads toward final approval. To suggest that the county is “selling its soul” in order to build a private university is misleading. This piece of land on the western border of Roseville has been part of the SACOG “blueprint” plan for growth for nearly 15 years. Although Placer County enjoys a rich tradition of offering quality education in our K-12 schools and also benefits from fine institutions like Sierra Community College and William Jessup University, the region desperately needs more higher education opportunities that will keep the best and brightest in Placer County. Community leaders throughout Placer County have fully supported this project from the very beginning and it’s exciting to see a prestigious university like Drexel step forward and be ready to share our dream by building a major university. A private university will be a tremendous asset for our community and is long overdue. Rich Pierucci Superintendent, Roseville City School District
