Revitalization suggestions

Auburn should look to other communities that have revitalized downtowns. Research what stores and services we lack and charge the Economic Development Commission with creating a plan to attract the type of businesses and infrastructure needed. Attracting local businesses (rather than chains or franchises) should be the priority. A hotel would unify Old Town and Downtown. A perfect site would be the lot next to Paula’s Bakery. With motels on the other side of I-80 and at Bowman, there is no reason for visitors to even come to Old Town/Downtown to dine or shop. A boutique hotel with underground parking and a streetside restaurant would be a real draw. The Preserve America matching-grant program provides planning and infrastructure grants. I suggest the City of Auburn consider partnering with Placer County to pursue Preserve America designation. Karen Killebrew, Applegate
