Rollover crash at Highway 49 and Luther Road in AuburnBy: Gus Thomson, Journal Staff Writer
AUBURN CA - A van crashed into a car and rolled over onto its roof Tuesday morning on Highway 49 in North Auburn.
The crash took place at 10:33 a.m., with the van ending up on its roof on the side of northbound Highway 49, just north of Luther Road.
The van’s driver – 91-year-old James Morgan of Auburn – was placed in an ambulance after the crash. California Highway Patrol Officer David Martinez said that Morgan said he was uninjured but was taken to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital as a precautionary measure.
Auburn's Steve Cline, 67, said he was crossing Highway 49 on a green light from Luther Road when the van hit the front end of his car. The van went through a red light on northbound Highway 49, he said.
"The paramedics got here in one minute," Cline said. "I praise God for that."
Martinez said that the Highway Patrol also determined that Morgan’s Toyota Sienna van drove through a red light. Cline said he was uninjured.
Traffic was backed up and slowed back to Nevada Way after the crash.
