A Roseville man is out of custody after he made a U-turn into oncoming traffic that injured an Auburn couple. Matthew David Doane, 25, was arrested March 13 on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs causing death or bodily injury, according to an Auburn Police Department report. Doane, who was traveling southbound on Highway 49, reportedly made a u-turn into oncoming traffic at about 8:31 p.m. near Highway 49 and Marguerite Mine Road in Auburn, the report stated. The right side of Doane’s 2006 white Ford F150 hit the front of an Auburn man’s 2007 blue Chevy Silverado in what an Auburn Police report classified as a head-on collision. The Auburn man and his passenger were both transported via ambulance to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital after they complained of pain to their chest, neck and back area. A witness at the scene said she was following the Auburn man’s Chevy northbound at about 45 mph when she saw a white truck traveling southbound “suddenly” make a u-turn into northbound traffic, according to the report. The witness then called 911. Both vehicles received “major” damage as a result of the collision. The accident report has been submitted to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office for further review. - Staff report
