A Roseville man who kidnapped and raped a 24-year-old woman is starting a prison sentence. Judge Marc Curry sentenced Justin Lee Mitchell, 30, to 25 years to life for stalking, tackling, strangling and raping the victim with a foreign object on May 26, 2010, according to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office. The incident happened after the woman left a Roseville area bar. Mitchell dragged her into some bushes and strangled her into unconsciousness before raping her, according to the District Attorney’s Office. After the rape the victim was able to escape and call the police, the District Attorney’s Office said. The District Attorney’s Office said Mitchell pleaded guilty to the charges March 30. Mitchell gave no reaction when the victim made a statement in court, the District Attorney’s Office said. According to the District Attorney’s Office, the woman said, “I hope that as you spend the majority of the rest of your life in prison that you reflect on the evil person you are and what you have done. I hope you realize that you ruined someone’s life for no reason whatsoever. Now you can spend the rest of your life paying for it.” Curry said the sentenced was justified due to the defendant’s prior record of 14 prior felony and misdemeanor convictions. The crimes included vehicle theft, domestic violence, child endangerment and drug charges, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Stephanie Macumber, the prosecutor on the case, said she was satisfied with the sentence because “the defendant is a dangerous predator from whom society deserves to be protected for as long as possible,” according to the District Attorney’s Office. ~Staff report
